- Coughing blood.
- Continuing weight loss and appetite loss.
- Shortness of breathing.

- Pain in chest area.
“These conditions are also symptomatic of many other lung problems, so a person who has any of these symptoms should see a doctor...” the article advises. The article also states that the doctor will ask questions about medical history, and possible exposure to hazardous substances, and other risk factors related to lung cancer.
Lung Cancer Detection & Treatment
The doctor could perform several different exams to detect lung cancer, according to the 11/2006 article. The following exams may be recommended by a doctor:
- Mucus (sputum) could be tested for cancer cells, taken from patients with a persistent cough.
- A chest x-ray to locate spots in the lungs.
- CT scan to spot smaller spots in lungs.
- Bronchoscope treatment. A small tube inserted through nose of mouth for looking inside airways, lungs, or for taking a biopsy sample.
If one receives a lung cancer diagnosis, the article states that the doctor will probably test to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. This, in addition to other tests, could require a CT, MRI, or a bone scan.
Fluid in Lung Causes and Treatment
